FASHION FUTURE INTERVIEW

Australian designer

Stephanie Goerlach-Tibbity

Fashion Future: Who would wear you lable- ie the ultimate 'x' girl?

Stephanie: I envisage the ultimate ‘Tibbity’ girl to be in the spotlight! Someone who loves attention and is not afraid to wear a statement piece that everyone will be talking about. She appreciates detail, steers away from the main stream and wants to wear something unique and luxurious.

FF: Where does you brand sit in the Australian and International Fashion market?

Stephanie: My brand ‘Tibbity’ sits among the high end; couture; made to order fashion market both nationally and Internationally. There is a lot of hand work in my collection, each knitted piece is one of a kind and my printed fabrics are from my own designs. I think people will be interested in wearing something that is unique and not mass produced.

FF: What is lacking in the Australian Fashion scene?

Stephanie: I feel that we tend to dress for our stereotyped easy-going nature here in Australia - casual and simple. With my clothes, I’d like to embrace this, while adding a little more playfulness and colour to the way we dress. I’d like to push the boundaries by introducing interesting shapes and textures that are wearable and unique.

FF: What are your Fashion career/business aspirations?

Stephanie: Ideally I would love to start my own small business selling limited edition pieces and collaborating with Australian or International labels. I feel that it is really important to create a strong network with up and coming designers here in Australia. I have already got some collaborative projects in the pipeline which I am really excited about.

FF: What do you hope to gain from showing at MBFW?

Stephanie: I feel that this is an invaluable opportunity to gain exposure for my label and meet like minded creatives who may be interested in working together. I would also love to meet anyone who could offer support with expanding my label and give any encouraging business advice. I feel that any offers that arise from this amazing opportunity are a blessing.

FF: Who are your ideal stockists?

Stephanie: Because of the detail and hand work in my current collection “ Alice in Wonder” I envisage that this range will best be suited to an online market sold directly through my website www.tibbity.com . Ideally I would love to /P>eventually expand to sell on sites such as Frockshop and Net-a-Porter, with the ultimate goal being an independant boutique store or collaborative creative space.

FF: Who or what would be your ideal collaboration ie think H&M, Target Sportsgirl

Stephanie: My Ideal Collaboration Internationally would be with Mary Katrantzou I think her use of prints, colour and quirky designs are exciting and make you want to talk about them. Nationally I would love to do a collaboration with Sportsgirl I Love that they are supporting young Australian designers and think it would be a great launching pad for my label.

FF: How do you compare Australian Fashion in relation to the Global markets?

Stephanie: I think that Australia has really made an impression on the international fashion market and the calibre of designers that we are producing here continues to impress. I hope to see more and more young designers making a mark on the global scene.

FF: Why would people buy your style?

Stephanie: I think people would buy my unique style of clothing as it has a quirky easy to wear appeal and steers away from the more typical tailored styles of clothing that other Australian designers already do so well.

FF: Where will you be in 2015?

Stephanie: Between now and 2015 I hope to build ‘Tibbity’ into a successful Australian label and potentially work with a major international fashion house.
