FASHION FUTURE INTERVIEW QUESTIONS

Australian designer Jade Sarita Arnott-label ‘Arnsdorf’ talks about her fashion journey.

Designer's Biography

Arnsdorf is an Australia based label, designed by Jade Sarita Arnott. Since its debut season in 2007, the label has grown both locally and internationally and is now stocked by a range of premium boutiques throughout Australia, New Zealand, North America and Europe. The direction of the label is defined by the designer Jade Sarita Arnott who is interested in exploring narrative, story and relationships through the design and wear of her clothes. As such, each collection leads the audience through a distinct and often playful journey through predefined dialogue and themes.

In her latest collection No One Belongs In My Suitcase More Than You, the range references the work of cross-disciplinary artist Miranda July who creates art projects that require the audience to actively participate in the creation of the work. No One Belongs In My Suitcase More Than You invites the wearer to complete the collection by transporting the clothing through a spontaneous or planned journey, to a new city or town and therefore allow each piece to develop its own independent story and meaning. As such, the collection offers a complete wardrobe that could be taken to a new city and offer solutions for any occasion or situation. The colours selected are rich, deep and luxurious - burgundy, rouge, peach, ginger, inks and greys - and are refined to their essential elements; working on the ideas of clean, reworked lines, that retain a sophisticated warmth.

The name Arnsdorf was taken from the designer’s original family name and as such the label was and remains a way of reclaiming the name through clothing and history. Jade Sarita Arnott lives in Melbourne, Australia.

Previous works include:

1. Why is it so rewarding to be an Australian Fashion Designer

"It’s rewarding to be creative in my work and to see my clothing find their way in to peoples’ wardrobes and lives."

2. Where do you get your inspirations from?

"My inspirations come from everywhere, from books, music, art, film, life……."

3. What has been your greatest achievement?

"Taking the risk to put my work out into the world."

4. What has been your greatest challenge and how did you overcome it?

"My greatest challenge within the label has been the financial side of the business and the stress and overworking to make deadlines, overcoming these things is a continual process."

5. Whose style do you most admire?

"I can’t think of one person in particular, but I admire aspects of many peoples’ style from passing strangers to people throughout history."

6 What changes in your business, if any, have you made to adapt to the current economic climate?

"Australia has been quite fortunate compared with other countries in terms of the economic climate, however the business has had to adapt to a few suppliers and shops folding, and to be extra conscious of maintaining budgets."

7. Divulge the fashion piece that you couldn't live without?

At the moment it’s my linen cuff pants from the new collection, I’ve been living in them.

8. What is your worst fashion faux pas?

"Hmmm…..I’m not sure, I don’t really think about fashion faux pas."

9. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

"I see things in every area of my life just getting better and better. I see Arnsdorf growing and expanding both internationally and within Australia."

10. What advice can you offer to emerging fashion designers?

"Gain as much experience as you can, and really decide and consider where in the industry you would be most suited."

11. Jade’s ‘HOT TIP’–

"Enjoy your life! Do what makes you happy."
